Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng is an award-winning Hong Kong actress, singer and songwriter who won Taiwan’s Golden Horse Award for Best Actress in 1976 and represented Hong Kong as Best Composer in a music festival in Japan. She married Tan Sri William Cheng, Chairman of Lion Group of Companies in Malaysia in 1981.
As Chairman of Lion-Parkson Foundation, Puan Sri Chelsia is actively involved in charity work in support of education and medical treatment, and the construction of a home for handicapped and mentally disabled children in Banting, Selangor that will soon include an old folks home.
She is the Founder of Xian’s Place in Kuala Lumpur, and Co-Founder of Beijing’s Tsinghua University’s Calligraphy and Cultural Research Center; which promote Chinese calligraphy and culture. She has staged exhibitions of her calligraphy and Chinese brush paintings in Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong to raise funds for charity. Her book “My Cause.My Music” which is a compilation of her articles that were published in two newspapers, in Malaysia and in Korea featuring her calligraphy and artwork, was published in 2017.
Puan Sri Chelsia is newly elected as one of the Vice Presidents and the first female Vice President in a hundred years, of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Prior to this, she served as the Chairperson of the Women Entrepreneurs Committee in the Chambers for 6 years to encourage community work and greater entrepreneurship amongst the lady members.
The national level Chambers; the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) had invited Puan Sri Chelsia to compose the theme song for its 100th Anniversary celebration this year. Puan Sri and ACCCIM are in the midst of organising a competition for the public to audition to form a 100-person choir to sing the song with the title《领航》(Leading The Way). She is also the producer for the micromovie with the same title as her song in conjunction with ACCCIM’s celebration.
